NAPLES, Fla. (March 18, 2021) – On March 17, 2021, the Heart Center at Physicians Regional Pine Ridge, a newly opened center, performed its 100th open heart procedure. The hospital performed their first open heart case in July 2020.
“We have created a remarkable program by combining physician, clinician and patient input for an excellent outcome and experience. We built this new cardiac program to provide our community with a facility that provides both high quality cardiac care and patient centered customer service,” said Scott Lowe, Physician Regional Healthcare System's chief executive officer.
The Heart Center at Physicians Regional multi-million dollar renovation of nearly 17,000 square feet opened in July 2020. The Center includes advanced surgical equipment and technologies allowing for a range of invasive and interventional cardiovascular procedures. Clinical care is enhanced with a dedicated cardiovascular intensive care unit for open heart surgery patients, two new operating rooms, two new cardiac catheterization labs and a new recovery area for interventional cardiology and electrophysiology patients.
Since the program opened, Physicians Regional's cardiac team has made a positive impact on the lives of 100 patients and their loved ones by repairing their hearts. The cardiac team has had the ability to get patients back to their active lifestyles.
“I am proud to be able to provide quality heart care to patients at Physicians Regional,” says Dr. Dennis Stapleton, cardiothoracic surgeon who performed the 100th open heart procedure at Physicians Regional. “The care that my patients receive before and after their operation is very important to me. Our hospital provides patient centered care from the first time we encounter the patient through their recovery at home.”
Dr. Scot Schultz was instrumental in developing this heart program at Physicians Regional alongside Dr. Dennis Stapleton. Both cardiothoracic surgeons are extremely proud of these first 100 cases and the excellent outcomes that these patients have achieved.
