Pharmacy Residency
Physicians Regional Healthcare System's postgraduate year one (PGY1) program is designed to develop independent clinical pharmacists. Our PGY-1 program is designed to provide post-doctoral residents a distinctive learning experience. Our program offers core rotations, longitudinal experiences and elective options between our two healthcare institutions in an idyllic Southwest Florida setting.
Our residents will be prepared to enter the ever-changing healthcare environment, after furthering their leadership skills and professional abilities. Our residents will have the opportunity to develop inter-professional relationships throughout our healthcare system.
Purpose
The purpose of our PGY1 pharmacy residency is to build on the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education in an effort to contribute to the development of a clinical pharmacist who is responsible for a wide-range of medication related patient care, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) training.

The pharmacy residency at Physicians Regional Healthcare System is dedicated to the development of caring, professional and competent clinical pharmacists who can deliver the highest quality of pharmaceutical care to the community.
Residency Program Specifics
Number of PGY1 Pharmacy Residents: 2
Period of Appointment: 12 months
Staffing Coverage: every other weekend, one evening shift every other week, assigned holidays
Each resident will:
- Conduct a medication use evaluation
- Complete and present at Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee meeting
- Assist in precepting undergraduate Pharm.D. students
- Present a project at the Florida Residency Conference and ASHP Midyear Meeting
- Participate in various hospital committees (examples: antimicrobial stewardship, medication safety, opioid stewardship)
- Develop and present a continuing education presentations
Our program offers a diverse assortment of patient care experiences, the ability to choose from a variety of elective rotations, training that will prepare residents for a clinical pharmacist role upon completion of the program, flexibility in regards to interests and future career goals, potential for employment within our hospital system upon completion, and supportive preceptors.
Benefits
Salary: $60,000 paid biweekly
Insurance: medical, dental, and vision plans available from Physicians Regional Healthcare System
Vacation/professional/sick leave:
- PTO: 152 hours accrued annually
- Sick time: 64 hours accrued annually
Accrued time is inclusive of professional leave/project time including but not limited to: time to take licensure exams, job and/or PGY2 interviews, travel to and from conferences, etc.
Travel Stipend
- All residents are provided with a stipend to support travel, lodging and registration fees for the purposes of professional conferences. The amount of the travel stipend is determined each year and may not cover all travel expenses.
- The PGY1 pharmacy residents will be expected to attend the following:
- ASHP Midyear Meeting
- Florida Residency Conference
